Love After Love by Derek Walcott

Here are a couple of poems. The first is by Derek Walcott and speaks to the relational nature of being with our self. The second is a haiku I wrote yesterday about the need to live in relationship starting with one’s self and extending out to beloved others.
The time will come
when, with elation
you will greet yourself arriving
at your own door, in your own mirror
and each will smile at the other’s welcome,

and say, sit here. Eat.
You will love again the stranger who was your self.
Give wine. Give bread. Give back your heart
to itself, to the stranger who has loved you

all your life, whom you ignored
for another, who knows you by heart.
Take down the love letters from the bookshelf,

the photographs, the desperate notes,
peel your own image from the mirror.
Sit. Feast on your life.

Sitting in circles
Revealing our inner most thoughts
A covenant grows

This is an amazing thought and important to each of us as we move through life. Be with good friends and bring good cheer.

The Rules for Being Human

This showed up today. It is true, old, and universal.
