How Not to Have to Dry the Dishes, poem and drawing by Shel Silverstein

There are always things in life I do not enjoy. One of them is doing dishes. Yet, when I think of times we gather as a family, there are some good memories from after the meal. Doing dishes and many other disliked chores can be times of great memories.

HOW NOT TO HAVE TO DRY THE DISHES
by Shel Silverstein

If you have to dry the dishes
(Such an awful, boring chore)
If you have to dry the dishes
(‘Stead of going to the store)
If you have to dry the dishes
And you drop one on the floor —
Maybe they won’t let you
Dry the dishes anymore.

“How Not to Have to Dry the Dishes” appears in Shel Silverstein‘s collection A Light in the Attic, available at Amazon.com.

The Atheist and little girl

This is a great story. Recently, a priest in his sermon said the next time someone says they do not believe in God to pose the following: “Describe this God you do not believe in.” He said once the description is complete it is likely we can say: “That is not the God I believe in either.” I find it difficult to describe God, because God is not within my realm of understanding or explanation. It does not mean God does not exist. It just means I am not very expert in some things.

An atheist was seated next to a little girl on an airplane and he turned to her and said, “Do you want to talk? Flights go quicker if you strike up a conversation with your fellow passenger.”

The little girl, who had just started to read her book, replied to the total stranger, “What would you want to talk about?”

“Oh, I don’t know,” said the atheist. “How about why there is no God, or no Heaven or Hell, or no life after death?” as he smiled smugly.

“Okay,” she said. “Those could be interesting topics but let me ask you a question first. A horse, a cow, and a deer all eat the same stuff – grass. Yet a deer excretes little pellets, while a cow turns out a flat patty, but a horse produces clumps. Why do you suppose that is?”

The atheist, visibly surprised by the…

Reverence for Life

One of the beautiful aspects of visiting mountain parks is I feel the energetic vibrations both positive and negative. The positive ones are the beauty and majesty of the world and Kathy driving. The negative is when I struggle with my fear of heights. Those energies are all part of me.

The good news is that the future is yours to form, and you are responsible for yourself and how you feel in relationship with others and the world.  We are called to be our best selves and to define our existence by being mindful. The journey is one toward light, toward grace.  There are many paths on this journey, but the signs are all the same – peace, passion, love and above all a reverence for life.

There are energetic vibrations that permeate all of life, positive and negative.  Our thoughts create these energetic vibrations and often times we are not even aware that we are sending out negative vibrations into the world.  It is important to establish an intention with our thoughts to send out positive energy.  With positive energy we benefit not only ourselves, but also the world.  We can do this simply by giving thanks for a…

A Quotation About Your Sacred Space From Joseph Campbell

Joseph Campbell has short and meaningful quotes to help me understand my life. I find myself back in the places I enjoy the most as if a magnet were pulling me back there.

Let’s fill our Soul…

This is a beautiful sentiment at any time.

Din's avatarPROPEL STEPS

Let’s be ready

Keep our soul filled
-With Love
-With Compassion
-With Strength
-With Rejoice

Let’s be ready
Always be ready

Because
We do not know
When our soul’s door be knocked?
For
One Act of Kindness

Lets make a difference from within.
Let’s be ready

Heaven and earth

We only need to be present to witness the extraordinary in the ordinary. This beautiful poem is a reminder of the need for presence in the world so we can be closer to heaven.

sky 2

In special places,
So they say,
The veil,
Is very thin
That separates
Our world
From heaven.

Maybe so,
I cannot say,
But this is
What I see:
That veil
Is like a cloudy sky
Ever shifting
Over me.

Sometimes
A gap
The sun
Breaks through.
Then heaven
Is very close
To me.

Framing the Unknown

I am back. We did not have the time this year on road home to spend down time as we traveled through Glacier National Park and around it in four days. We got some great shots and I survived Logan’s Pass. Each moment brings the unknown. The picture and question are great reminders there is much in the moment and under its surface.

It Begins Within

This has been an incredibly difficult and challenging lesson to learn for me over the years. I needed to accept, forgive, and love myself. Loving myself responsibly makes me a better gift for others. I had the opportunity to hear Marianne Williamson present and it was truly inspirational.

A THOUGHT FOR TODAY

We are headed out in the next few minutes and will spend time in nature. Just looking at the pictures Kathy took on her way down here, I am sure that it will be spectacular and reconnecting as we drive into and across Glacier. Nature is such a great place to just be and find one’s self.
