This is two amazing pictures and wonderful poetry to accompany. Thank you.

This post provides excellent advice in a short and understandable manner. Great wisdom takes few words.

Determinists take an outward appearance of reality & based on a reductionist understanding of how the world works. However, this misses a larger picture. Here are 3 commonly agreed aspects of reality which they warp or fundamentally misunderstand–which are at the basis of their argument.

1) Life is a learning experience
2) Life is additive–with one activity building on the next
3) Life has ripple effects. Life has consequences

They take a dynamic and vibrant process, which has some laws and principles guiding it–but a) overlook the above b) overdetermine the role in which the aspects they describe underlie reality or its appearances.

Do you have other ideas about the shortcomings or assumptions of determinism?

Who else would like to be a flower? Thank you to lijuin for an inspiring thought.

Imagine if we see a heap of garbage, it’s so stinky & smelly.

What we are going to do?

Find a way to get rid of it, right?

Do you know what is the expectation from Buddha towards His Disciples?

To be a flower that can grow in the heap of garbage, use the garbage as fertilizer and shine out the environment without changing the nature of garbage.

Turn the garbage to be a garden full of flower.

Are you the shinning flower?

Normally, human nature hope to change others or the environment but not OURSELVES.

Based on the Buddha teaching, we need to look inward for purification before we are asking others to make any changes in life.

Be the flower that can evolve from the garbage!

People will notice once you’ve transform, showing the wholesome characters-compassion, gratitude, generosity, selfless, metta, wisdom and others.

Let’s show a life example…

Nick presents a perspective from around the world, Australia. This is not a story with a single question, let alone a single answer or two camps. It is a narrative needing multiple questions, new conversations, and new ways of engaging those in the classrooms in the conversations.

You may have read about the Edmonton, Canada, teacher who expected to be sacked for handing out zeros. It’s been linked to sites as diverse as Metafilter, where a long and interesting debate ensued, and Cracked, where it was labelled one of the ongoing ‘pussifications’ of schools. (Seriously? I know you’re a humour site but was there some other way you could have put that? Very disappointed.)

Basically, the Edmonton Public School Board decided that, rather than just give a zero for a missed assignment, this would be used as a cue for follow-up work and additional classes at school or home. Their argument – you can’t mark work that hasn’t been submitted, let’s use this as a trigger to try and get submission, in case the source is external or behavioural. This, of course, puts the onus on the school to track the students, get the additional work…

I meant to reblog this several days ago. It is topical with the suspension of a high school teacher in Edmonton for giving zeros. Marks are a currency and abstract, therefore when given do serious damage to children. Alberta has 1/4 of its students leave school. What role did marks play in there exodus? What about the students who stay? Who makes the decisions? It is certainly not the classroom teacher. It is bureaucrats, technocrats, and politicians who form committees. The last time God used a committee was to design the camel. That was a long time ago. If I am a professional, treat me like one. When you ask my opinion, I do not offer as an expert. I offer it as a classroom teacher who sees the impact of poor policies on students every day.

Major debate regarding giving zeroes to students in Canada right now.  Joe Bower gives great reasons NOT to do this here….

Gratitude

I began blogging in earnest in February, but it really began to take off in April. Today was a milestone with my 200th follower. With that, comes the reverse. I follow. There is a tremendous digital gathering and we are only just beginning to understand its impact.

200,

it isn’t 300,

the movie

or followers.

Thank you

for finding your way to this blog.

On a digital palette

I create

vent

share

reveal

learn

present

about the complex nuances of my life in this world.

My gratitude expressed two ways–

following others

who blaze trails

as pioneers

as companions.

Thank you

grateful

you share

your venture along

on this road less traveled

a humbling

transforming

uplifting space.

I am grateful, indebted.

Thank you

is the second way to express gratitude to 200 + 1 now.

I posted about passion and its close cousin compassion. Simon presents a compelling case for loving something that is important to you. Parker Palmer and Thomas Merton spoke of the connection between voice and vocation. When we are called to something it means something more than just a job. Thank you for the great passion and the post Simon.

This is another great reblog of a reblog. Do our bosses approve and appreciate our learning? Frequently, what passes as institutional professional learning is an edict from above. When I engage in learning, I want to own it. I want to be a scholar.

This is a most interesting view of bullying. There is a growing sentiment that entitlement is often a product of self-esteem and we, adults, should focus on self-efficacy and resiliency. Self-esteem fits under this and children learn to deal effectively with setbacks. It is certainly food for thought and I thank Darlena for the reblog.

Twice today, I received blog entries about living life fully and loving it for what it is. This is an amazing post and the other is at Marie Wetmore’s blog on my blog roll. I received this one from http://wheresmytbackandotherstories.wordpress.com/. Please check all three blogs out. They are great.
