Believe in Yourself

e. e. cummings was an incredible poet. When I first read his poems as a youngster, I was drawn to the quirkiness in his writing i.e. no capitals, a lack of punctuation, and made up words. Now, I realize there are messages deeply embedded in the poetry. We are completed by others who believe in us.

believe

“We do not believe in ourselves

until someone reveals that deep inside us something is valuable,

worth listening to, worthy of our trust, sacred to our touch.

Once we believe in ourselves we can risk

curiosity, wonder, spontaneous delight

or any experience that reveals the human spirit.”

~ e.e. cummings

Sometimes we just need someone to reveal to us the words, “I believe in you.”  There is something quite magical in hearing that someone sees you, sees the real you and in knowing that, they believe in you.  I know this because I have experienced that kindness with much gratitude when I have been feeling low, dark and empty.  The words, “I believe in you,” lifted me up and lit my little heart afire in such a spunky way.

It’s like believing in Santa.  When Christmas rolls around, many people, young and old BELIEVE!  They believe in the spirit of…

Dawn.

This is a beautiful image with a wonderful quote. We need reminders that in the darkest of times the sun will rise again shining on us and the world.

Black & White

Understanding each other is always incomplete, but being there for each other fills the gaps. Caring for one another is the responsible thing for humans to do and helps complete who we each are.

The suggestions in the post i.e. cultivating beauty and joy, playing, filling your sails with dreams, and feeding your soul with what enchants you are worth meditating over each day. What do they mean in our living?

We rise by lifting others.

We do. It is in and through the extended hand that we express our humanity for others to witness.

If you are a poet….

Thich Nhat Hanh’s poem describes the interconnection of matter. Remove one thing from the link and what remains?

“If you are a poet, you will see clearly that there is a cloud floating in this sheet of paper. Without a cloud, there will be no rain; without rain, the trees cannot grow: and without trees, we cannot make paper. The cloud is essential for the paper to exist. If the cloud is not here, the sheet of paper cannot be here either. So we can say that the cloud and the paper inter-are.”

Free Flight Into The Wordless

The image and the short piece by Pablo Neruda fit so well together. Poetry is a deep inner calling in humans. It is a language that allows us to speak immediately to the world.

Poetry is a deep inner calling in man: from it came liturgy, the

psalms, and also the content of religions. The poet confronted

nature’s phenomena and in the early ages called himself a priest,

to safeguard his vocation. . . . Today’s social poet is still a member

of the earliest order of priests. In the old days he made his

pact with the darkness, and now he must interpret the light.
