Flowers reach across human made boundaries and culture. In the first quote by Roethke, there is an intertwining of science and poetry with flowers keeping their light. Flowers provide sunshine and happiness in life at all times of the year.
Deep in their roots, all flowers keep the light.
The temple bell stops but I still hear the sound coming out of the flowers.
Just living is not enough… one must have sunshine, freedom, and a little flower.
Hans Christian Andersen
Reflection is a flower of the mind, giving out wholesome fragrance; but revelry is the same flower, when rank and running to seed. Desiderius Erasmus
Happiness is the art of making a bouquet of those flowers within reach.
She cast her fragrance and her radiance over me. I ought never to have run away from her… I ought to have guessed all the affection that lay behind her poor little stratagems. Flowers are so inconsistent! But I was too young to know how to love her…
Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
