In keeping with bell hooks and Noam Chomsky, I consider myself a public and dissident intellectual. Part of my work is to move beyond (transcend) institutional dogmas that bind me to defend freedom, raising my voice to be heard on behalf of those who seek equity and justice in all their forms. I completed my PhD in Philosophy of Leadership Studies at Gonzaga University, Spokane, WA. My dissertation and research was how teachers experience becoming teachers and their role as leaders. I focus on leading, communicating, and innovating in organizations. This includes mindfuful servant-leadership, World Cafe events, Appreciative Inquiry, and expressing one's self through creativity. I offer retreats, workshops, and presentations that can be tailored to your organzations specific needs. I published peer reviewed articles about schools as learning organizations, currere as an ethical pursuit, and hope as an essential element of adult eductaion. I published three poems and am currently preparing my poetry to publish as an anthology of poetry. I present on mindful leadership, servant leadership, schools as learning organizations, how teachers experience becoming teachers, assessement, and critical thinking. I facilitate mindfulness, hospitality retreats. and World Cafe Events using Appreciative Inquiry. The way Einstein would clear his mind, be outside the box, focus like that, would that be like meditation?
He sure arose from nowhere, a nobody to such immediate stature.
Enquiring minds want to know
It is hard to say about meditation, but I think that might be accurate. He demonstrated some signs of ADHD and high functioning autism. One of the things that is overlooked in ADHD and high functioning autism is the ability to focus on the world when it is needed. I can see Einstein sitting for hours and appearing to do nothing, when he was taking it in.
So a mind like Rain Mans is not damaged would you say, just wired differently.
So a normal, albeit what normal is, could be normal and function like this.
Through neuroscience now we use three to six per cent of our mind.
Well most of that is below the cognitive side. The expansive world below the ego.
Einstein has a philosophy though and functioned in society with his handicap.
Wired differently is the way to think about it. I was sitting in a PhD classroom several years ago and it dawned on me how we labeled children in ways that damaged inflicting damage rather than celebrating their gifts. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder perhaps just like handicaps are. Students continuously surprised me with their hidden abilities.
Yes, we label things and people, we limit them with this rigidity and we do this as you know being a teacher at the earliest ages.
Ivon,,you being a hockey coach, know how fickle fans are and how nicknames and labels stick. How fans feel about players is much different than players feel about each other.
The masses,mine crowd has harsh judgment for many.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Funny how not judging things and people as beautiful ugly or neutral frees us and them.
Look how we have judged ourselves through the decades and how those original judgments are so inaccurate.
Look how our self judgment on who we are impacts everything about us.
The labels do stick and, yet in new environments they can be shed and new beginnings happen.

I love the first line. Labels a fables. They are the fictions we create to hide in.
