I found this in my reader today and felt it was a great way to restart. The quote reminded me I am part of the world and not separate. The picture draws me with its beauty and what I am united with; the world.

In keeping with bell hooks and Noam Chomsky, I consider myself a public and dissident intellectual. Part of my work is to move beyond (transcend) institutional dogmas that bind me to defend freedom, raising my voice to be heard on behalf of those who seek equity and justice in all their forms. I completed my PhD in Philosophy of Leadership Studies at Gonzaga University, Spokane, WA. My dissertation and research was how teachers experience becoming teachers and their role as leaders. I focus on leading, communicating, and innovating in organizations. This includes mindfuful servant-leadership, World Cafe events, Appreciative Inquiry, and expressing one's self through creativity. I offer retreats, workshops, and presentations that can be tailored to your organzations specific needs. I published peer reviewed articles about schools as learning organizations, currere as an ethical pursuit, and hope as an essential element of adult eductaion. I published three poems and am currently preparing my poetry to publish as an anthology of poetry. I present on mindful leadership, servant leadership, schools as learning organizations, how teachers experience becoming teachers, assessement, and critical thinking. I facilitate mindfulness, hospitality retreats. and World Cafe Events using Appreciative Inquiry. A question arises on this issue in relation to art. What makes one work of art dead yet another piece of art seem alive? I suggest “living wisdom”. An artist can dump a pile of bricks and invent an abstraction of defining it, and then label it art, but to me it is dead. The same bricks can be given to a community of children to construct a meaning that represents their everyday situation, this is a form of “living wisdom”.
You are so right Alex.We live our wisdom and collect other things, whatever they might be.
very nice “de Keukenhof” in the Netherlands, I’m very proud of it…
They look like beautiful gardens and worth being proud of.
awesome quote that speaks what I often feel. It’s a hard thing to put into words, but Lewis does it justice here.
It is very hard to put those things into words, so it is nice to have someone like C. S. Lewis to do it for us.
Beautiful.
Thank you.
As we are all special and unique and yet beautiful, the flowers show us that so it is in nature, they are all a part of each others essence, and they exist wonderfully together in spite of their colors…in a lasting peace! Thanks for sharing!
You are welcome Wendell.
A worthy though for any day. Do so appreciate Lewis. Thank you.
Well, Ivon, a lovely visit here today, a day when I have enough time to comment as well a read – so rare – and what a wonderful teacher you must be. I have wanted to say that for some time.
Many blessings and thank you for sharing your work and insights,
Jamie
Thank you Jamie for the kind words and for stopping to comment. I look forward to your visits and my visits to your blog.
Thank you so much for sharing this. I had not come across this quotation before, but am very inspired and intrigued by beauty and our experience of it, so I’m especially grateful for this profound observation. Best wishes
You are welcome. C.S. Lewis is well-known for the Chronicles of Narnia but wrote numerous books about spirituality. He is a great source of inspiration.
Yes, thanks very much. I’m familiar with some of his work, but didn’t recall this eloquent quotation. What is your area of study for your dissertation? Cheers
The PhD focuses on philosophy of leadership and the dissertation topic will be about mindful practices as it applies to the implementation and use of digital technologies in schools.
Wow. Very interesting and impressive. Best wishes
Thank you.
